Desires Slave : Goodness's Fool

The world that is so filled with desire
Does with hate and greed conspire
To undo a life’s long labor
And sever ties with the saber!
Shall head or heart rule the day?
For either choice what price will pay?
Shall I surrender to desires call?
Become its puppet and its doll?
Or shall my heart stronger rule?
And to goodness make myself a fool?
Will I weep for what is lost?
Always, always there is a cost!
But still it seems I desire more
Though monetary values make me poor!
Can I resist such fleeting pleasures?
To make way for future treasures?
I know the sorrows of today
Slowly will build the way
To a future of glowing dreams!
But the heart stitched at the seems
That still finds cause to bitterly weep
Yet still has joy to closely keep
Has strength that will wan but not expire
In a life that’s spent dismissing desire!
And if I were to be asked my choice
I’d shout it clear in a ringing voice
The words I say my crowning jewel
Over desires slave I’d sooner be a fool

so Here is a poem I wrote a few months ago and I am almost completely happy with it! This is something that rarely happens and when it does I am always very curious as to my readers interpretations so if you happen to read this poem nothing aside from the opportunity to officially publish my work would make me happier than to hear a response from you and to know your interpretations of this little piece of me.

  1. I love that this can be read forward and backward. :) I don't think that was your intention mind you, but it can be done... and it's kinda fun.
