The sweat that dews upon my brow
Like the ocean’s waves makes me bow
To the sky, smooth as glass
Until the angry shadows pass
And clouds roll in with wind and rain
As lightning turns dark skies insane
Thunder trembles the steamy earth
And seasons seek to find their worth
My lungs are thick with humid air
I am trapped within the inferno layer
Cast by the sun and moon’s affair
Where from heaven, stars come to dance
Before my eyes as fireflies prance
Keening, crickets sing their song
In place of birds all night long
The air at last casts it spell
With its bleached and grassy smell
The salt of victory lies on my tongue
Like the joyous cries of the young
As the earth bursts forth in flame
Angry and devoid of shame
As it burns like the sun
To see a seasons work undone
With a roar the fire itself consumed
Vanishing into the air so sweet perfumed
Leaving behind ashes white
That fall from trees like birds in flight
And from these phoenix ashes rise
Green shoots, up into the skies
And they beckon to sunshine rays
To bring about longer days
And the sweat that dews upon my brow
Like the oceans waves makes me bow
